Interested in the Greens Committee?

We’re looking for a few new members to join our Greens Committee as we head into the fall season. The committee plays an important role in supporting course conditions, sharing golfer feedback, and helping guide long‑term improvements across Tucson City Golf.

If you enjoy the courses, care about the golfer experience, and want to be part of the conversation, we’d love to hear from you. A brief interest form will be available soon, and we’ll share more details in the coming weeks. Stay tuned for how you can get involved.

Spotlight on Hole 6 at Randolph North

A new tee box is taking shape on Hole 6 at Randolph North, where our agronomy team has been leveling, resurfacing, and smoothing the surface to improve firmness, consistency, and overall playability. What used to be a bumpy start is becoming a clean, elevated tee that’s nearly ready for golfers!

August is also when the desert starts to give a little back, and recent monsoon rains have helped stabilize moisture levels. Some areas are showing improved density and recovery, while others are still working through the tougher parts of the summer transition. As temperatures ease and growth patterns begin to level out, our agronomy teams are fine‑tuning daily maintenance to support consistency and keep conditions moving in the right direction through the rest of the season.

If you’re curious about how this seasonal shift works (and why the courses can look different from week to week), our full transition article explains the process and includes notes from our agronomy team. 👉 Check out the article here

The Tucson Golf Program is Tucson City Golf’s player development hub. Our PGA of America Professionals help golfers of all ages learn the game, build confidence, and strengthen fundamentals. This August brings new sessions, returning leagues, and junior programming kicking into gear across our courses. Each coaching package includes weekly group practices, monthly on‑course rounds, and 12–16 hours of focused training designed to build confidence, consistency, and competitive readiness. Aeration season is here, and it’s one of the most important maintenance practices we do to keep our courses healthy and playing their best.

Aeration clears harmful gases from the soil and improves air flow, which strengthens turf health and playability. It also relieves compaction, improves water movement, and supports stronger root systems — all essential for keeping greens smooth, firm, and consistent as Tucson heads into its hottest stretch. Because this work requires recovery time, each course will close briefly for one day during its scheduled date in June.

As a thank‑you for your patience, golfers will receive a $5 discount on greens fees for one week following aeration at each course. The discount is applied at check‑in.

👔 Give The Gift of Golf 👔

Father’s Day is almost here, and there’s no better way to celebrate the dads who love the game. Whether he’s chasing early tee times, eyeing new gear, or planning a lesson to sharpen his swing, a Tucson City Golf gift card lets him enjoy the day exactly how he wants. Pick one up at any of our golf shops and have Dad set for June 21.

Back‑9 Breakfast at Randolph is our new 9-and-dine special for early risers who want to get a quick 9 holes in with a fast, fresh bite before the day kicks in. Beginning on Friday, June 5th, and available on Wednesday and Friday mornings throughout the summer, during the same window as our 6:15–7:05 AM Back-9 tee times.

For $34 + tax for City Card holders and $40 + tax for non‑City Card holders, you can get 9 holes riding with any of the above choices.

El Rio’s June Special

Every Monday & Tuesday in June, El Rio is serving up a simple, summer-friendly duo of $5 Margaritas and $5 Chimis or Taquitos. This is a perfect post-round combo for warm Tucson afternoons.

At El Rio, you’ll notice a few fresh touches on the course this month. New tee markers are incoming, and the nines have been flipped back to their original layout, which is a change many longtime players will appreciate right away.

Across all courses, our agronomy teams are dialing in conditions for the summer season. We’ve lowered mowing heights on fairways, tees, and surrounds to support the transition from winter ryegrass to warm‑season bermudagrass. As temperatures rise, you’ll see a gradual shift in color and texture as the bermudagrass takes over. Weekly fertilizer applications will help promote healthy growth and smoother playing surfaces as we move deeper into May.

Golf Improvement Fund: Proposal & Open House

Following a vote during the Mayor and Council meeting on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, the City of Tucson has issued a notice of intent (NOI) for proposed rate and fee changes for the Parks and Recreation department, as required by Arizona Revised Statutes § 9-499.15. One of the proposed fee changes would affect golf. An open house will be held on Thursday, May 7, 4-6 p.m., at the Randolph Dell Urich Golf Course (Copper Room) for anyone who would like to discuss the proposed fee.

Proposed to take effect July 1, 2026: $2 per round of golf on top of greens fee, to be used for capital improvements at Tucson City Golf courses.

Other public meetings for all proposed fees are being held throughout the city. You are encouraged to attend the public meetings and submit comments on the proposal using the online comment portal. For more information, visit the Tucson Parks and Recreation website at 👉 tucsonparks.info/parksandrecrfeechanges.

Our teams are beginning spring conditioning work across the courses, including vertical mowing and topdressing greens. These practices thin out the remaining winter grass and encourage healthy bermudagrass growth as temperatures rise. The sand topdressing that follows helps create a smoother, firmer surface. This work will continue periodically until overseed starts in the fall.

April brings great weather and even better post‑round moments. Stop by one of our course restaurants for happy hour and enjoy favorites like discounted beer on tap, pork taquitos, wings, Arizona cheese crisp, and tater tots. Each course has its own lineup. Here’s a closer look at the 1925 Bar & Grill at Randolph Golf Complex:

All Tucson City Golf shops are offering 30% off all in‑stock golf bags this month. It’s the perfect time to upgrade your setup for spring. Inventory varies by course, so stop by your favorite shop to see what’s available.

Major‑season vibes are also here, and every Tucson City Golf shop has the limited‑edition Callaway Chrome Tour April Major balls. El Rio is also carrying a fresh drop of Bad Birdie apparel, including new shirts, hats, and major‑inspired pieces that are ready for spring golf. Swing by and check out the lineup while it lasts!

Registration for Tucson’s City Amateur Championship is open!

This year’s Tucson City Amateur runs April 17–19 with a three‑course rotation: El Rio on Friday, Randolph North on Saturday, and Dell Urich on Sunday. With a 120‑player field and spots already filling quickly, securing your place before the April 6 deadline is the smart play.

If you need to withdraw, cancellations made on or before April 10 receive a full refund. Cancellations from April 11–16 receive golf shop credit, and no refunds or credits are available after April 16.

The Tucson Golf Program is Tucson City Golf’s player‑development hub. Our PGA of America Professionals help golfers of all ages learn the game, sharpen their skills, and connect with the Tucson community by leading programs that build confidence and strengthen fundamentals.

PGA Jr. League

PING Interclub

PGA Hope Tucson
Discover the game with adaptive instruction designed for veterans and active-duty military at Randolph Golf Complex. The next session runs April 17–May 22, and registration opens March 18th. PGA REACH and the Southwest PGA Foundation fully fund the program, so veterans participate at no cost.

Our teams are lowering mowing heights across fairways and approaches to support the spring transition back to bermudagrass. You’ll notice firmer, faster conditions as the turf responds to warmer temperatures.

We’re also shifting our divot‑mix. Seed is being phased out in the rough, and most divot bottles will move to a sand‑only mix. If you find seed mix in the bottles, it’s still fine to use them as we transition.

We’re also celebrating Oscar Mejia, Superintendent at Fred Enke Golf Course, who has accepted the role of Director of Agronomy at El Conquistador Golf Course in Oro Valley. We appreciate his contributions to Tucson City Golf and wish him continued success.

El Rio is running a 65% off sale on all in‑stock FootJoy shoes, making it one of the best times of the year to upgrade your footwear at a steep discount. In‑stock shoes only; no special orders.

Silverbell is featuring prior‑generation Callaway Chrome Tour and Chrome Soft golf balls at $58 a dozen, with a buy three, get the fourth free offer. Limited quantities; no other discounts apply.

Wednesdays just got tastier at Fred Enke Golf Course, where Ollie’s is offering half‑off pizza every Wednesday in March. Enjoy a classic cheese or build your own with $1 toppings after your round.

Investing in Better Greens

Solid needle tining will occur on greens and collars over the coming weeks. This light maintenance improves airflow and soil absorption, promoting healthier turf. For golfers that means smoother, more consistent greens with little to no impact on play.

Pro Shop Sales are Back

For the month of February, stop by the Silverbell Pro Shop and receive a free dozen Callaway Chrome Soft X golf balls with the purchase of select golf bags, while supplies last. New arrivals from FootJoy, Bad Birdie, and more are now in stock. Perfect for Valentine’s Day gifts or treating yourself.
